Parent Involvement

Parents as Partners

Family involvement is a necessary and valued piece of a student’s education. There are numerous opportunities to volunteer including: monthly parent meetings, parent volunteer coordinators, class parties, volunteering in the classroom, chaperoning fieldwork, fundraising --- just to name a few. Remember that all visitors to the school campus are required to sign in at the office and receive a visitor’s sticker. Regular invitations to parent meetings and volunteer opportunities will be sent home with students.

Visiting/Volunteering in a classroom

Visiting a student’s classroom is another option for being involved in your student’s academic life. A teacher may not be able to immediately spend time with you, as the business of learning is our primary focus. However, all teachers are available via phone, email, or for meetings by appointment. Also, note that younger brothers and sisters may be a distraction while visiting classrooms and are not permitted on school busses while chaperoning fieldwork.

Student-Led Conferences

Attending student-led conferences is a must for academic growth and celebration. Conference times are prearranged with each teacher for  two student-led conferences. One in November and another one in March. One hundred percent participation (one parent/guardian per family) at conferences is expected --- this is a crucial part of school success. Students present their learning through student-led conferences and are required to be present at their conferences.

SAAC

We encourage you to join our School Advisory and Accountability Committee (SAAC). This important team of parents and stakeholders meets monthly to provide input in the school improvement plan and school resources. Please watch for specific dates and times for these meetings.

Parent Leadership - We also have an active Parent Leadership group that meets in conjunction with our SAAC team. This is a team of parents work to support classroom teachers, discuss and provide input to Explore events, coordinate and volunteer Explore events with Explore staff, and plan and organize our annual fundraiser. Please consider joining this important parent team!

Contact Us

Frequent and open communication between home and school is crucial to student success. There are numerous ways to contact the school and your child’s teacher. All school staff has an email address, for example, last name, first name initial @mapleton.us;

Teachers can be reached at the main school phone number, 303.853.1170.

Often, parents wish to touch base with their child’s teacher before or after school. Please know that we welcome regular communication, but that these are busy times of the day and teachers may not be available for a long conversation.  Feel free to contact a teacher to schedule time for a longer conversation. Please email, call, stop by or send in a note with your student to communicate with school staff.

In addition to regular communication from your child’s teacher, please expect a monthly newsletter from Mrs. Peebles on our webpage and in your email.

Bilingual Support

Several different language interpreters are available for conferences and other prearranged meetings with school staff. If this is a service you would like to take advantage of, please contact the school office or make your student’s teacher aware of your needs. If it’s not a prearranged meeting (just stopping by with a question, for example) and Spanish/English language assistance is needed, we can usually find someone in the office or a nearby classroom to help make communication easier.
