Students at Explore PK-8 made friendship bracelets last week to remind each other of the strength that strong friendships bring, as part of their lessons with the Sources of Strength (SOS) program.

The program is a universal, school-based program designed to change the norms and behaviors surrounding suicide within a school community and increase social support and connectedness among students. It is based around eight core protective factors, like mentors, generosity, and family support.

Each week for the next couple months, Explore will focus on the importance of the different factors, and last week’s focus was on positive friends. Positive friends lift us up, make us laugh, are honest with us, and are there for us when we need them.
